Procedure:
The QatarEnergy medical requires an extensive medical examination and blood / urine tests.
You should allow 2-3 hours for the medical (including Xray).
The Preemployment QatarEnergy Medical includes:
▪ Physical Examination (height, weight, BMI, pulse, blood pressure, vision, etc)
▪ Chest X-ray
▪ ECG
▪ Spirometry
▪ Audiometry
▪ VO2 max by Chester step test / treadmill test – All high effort jobs (e.g., Fireman, Driver, Emergency response, Diver, Security, Working in confined space, Marine pilot etc.) and over 60s.
Laboratory tests
▪ Blood Group
▪ Fasting Blood Sugar (FBS) - HbA1c when FBS is high
▪ Lipid Profile - Total Cholesterol, Low-density lipoprotein, Triglycerides
▪ Alanine aminotransferase, Aspartate aminotransferase,
Gamma-glutamyl transferase
▪ Urinalysis (Routine and Microscopy)
Additional testing based on job categories / age
▪ VO2 max by Chester step test / treadmill test – All high effort jobs (e.g., Fireman, Driver, Emergency response, Diver, Security, Working in confined space, Marine pilot etc. including staff who are above 60 yr.)
▪ Stool test (Food Handlers, Laundry man)
▪ Chest X-ray (Any diving job, Pre-employment medical, if clinically indicated)
▪ Romberg test for balance and coordination (Working at height, Tower crane operator)
▪ Epilepsy evaluation (Tower crane operator, Working at height, All types of pilot, Heavy vehicle drivers)
▪ Thyroid Function Test (Radiation worker)
▪ HBV, HCV, HIV & RPR (Healthcare worker)
IMPORTANT: For the above tests, you will need to FAST for at least 8 hours prior to the medical.
Please bring with you:
▪ Photographic ID (ie. passport, driving licence)
▪ 2 x recent passport photos
▪ A hardcopy of the medical form with section A completed. This can be downloaded at the top of this page
▪ Fasting for 8 – 10 hrs. is required prior to blood test
▪ Avoid smoking and exposure to noises at least 24 hrs. prior to assessment
▪ Provide medication list and recent medical reports, if applicable
▪ Bring spectacles or contact lenses if using for vision correction
Locations:
The medical is carried out at GP Matters (24 Buckingham Terrace, Glasgow, G12 8ED).
The chest X-ray is carried out at the Nuffield Hospital (25 Beaconsfield Rd, Glasgow G12 0PJ) - 5 min drive from the clinic - we will aim to arrange it for you just after your medical.
After your QatarEnergy Medical:
Please allow 4-5- working days for your QatarEnergy medical to be finalised. This will then be e-mailed to you and the original documents can be collected at the clinic or posted to you.
Validity
Unless foreseen by local laws and regulations or specified by the examining physician due to health surveillance limitations /restrictions, the validity of the Health Certificate shall be two years from the medical examination date.
If the applicant is 45 years old and above, the validity of the medical is 1 year from the medical examination date.
