We offer the choice of single measles, mumps and rubella for those parents hesitant about the combined MMR.
As of August 2008, parents considering the single vaccines will have to
take into account that at the present time there is a shortage of mumps
vaccine. The manufacturers, Merck, have temporarily ceased production.
We have been advised that they anticipate supplies resuming in early Spring
2009. Reassuringly this has happened in the past, and mumps vaccine has
become available again
Measles is the most important vaccine and we can continue to offer that first. Rubella is then given at an interval fo 6-8 weeks. This does still mean that there would be a longer interval before the mumps became available, unless the situation changes. |
